Must Room for Mushrooms

(must have room for mushrooms)

Heaven is in the mood for watering the earth.. It has been pouring hard and profusely this weekend -- a nice break from the scorching heat of the sun the whole week.

A friend said, when there is a rainbow after a rain, sure there is a rain after the heat (seems to be the pattern these past weeks).  When there is heat, there is the dad who is honored today.. Huh? Honored with much warmth =)

As Paul Lewis puts it, "A Father's words are like a thermostat that sets the temperature in the house."  HAPPY FATHER's DAY!!  Especially to the best father in the world, MY DAD :)  You Rock Dad!! [READ: Rock is one that is similar to or suggestive of a mass of stone in stability, firmness, or dependability; as in "The Father has been the family's ROCK during difficult times"]

What about mushrooms?  What do I need to make room for mushrooms?

While our Father in heaven has been showering us with love (and gifted us by sending us a Father on earth), so does rain is creating a way for mushrooms to grow from its food source.

What are mushrooms?  According to wikipedia, it is "fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground on soil" and decaying plants.  To add, "mushroom is not plant and does not undergo photosynthesis" so it gets its nutrients from the soil or plants.

Did you say Mushroom is a fungus?!  That's nasty... It may seem nasty, but mushrooms is a heavy weight on nutrients like those we see in fairy tales like Alice in Wonderland, albeit humongous :)

Some of the Benefits are:
Helps lower cholesterol from "the fiber and certain enzymes in mushrooms." It provides high lean protein that helps burn cholesterol when they are digested.
Aids in helping to absorb oxygen and create red blood cells (copper)
Rich in selenium, an antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals and for healthy bones, teetch, nails, hair etc
Strengthens the immune system.  "Mushrooms contain natural antibiotics which inhibit microbial and other fungal infections"
Significant part of a Diabetic's diet.  "They contain natural insulin and enzymes which help breaking down of sugar or starch of the food"
Whole array of benefits: "Mushrooms are the only vegetable and the second known source (after cod liver oil) to contain vitamin-D in edible form.  They are rich in calcium (good for the bones), iron (benefits anemia), potassium (lowering blood pressure), "

On November 1, 1980, a farm growing 4 different types of mushrooms (Abalone, Oyster, Wooden Ear, Shitake) gave birth to the first Mushroomburger, with a  recipe following a Swiss Executive Chef of one of the major hotels.  Since then it has been a permanent fixture, a must-try place for tourists in Tagaytay and a stop-over on the way to Batangas.

The mushroom burger has now several varieties including the photo inset, Mushroomburger Royal [burp, excuse me, just had one] which comes with mushroom, omelet and cheese.  This can be paired with Pansit canton or lomi, if you are warming up from the rainy season and the cool climate in Tagaytay.  And who said, mushrooms can not be dessert?  Sweet mushrooms anyone? :)

As promised here's the Tagaytay main branch direction and map.  If your craving for the mushroomburger, have to be satisfied immediately and can not wait for a travel to the 2nd summer capital of the Philippines, catch it at Quezon City either West Ave or Katipunan Ave Branches

WORD OF CAUTION:  Only eat mushroom from known sources!! "A single poisonous mushroom can send people to coma, induce severe poisoning systoms like nausea, vomiting, convulsions, cramps, insanity, worst, may kill.."

  1. I have read that we know very little about mushrooms compared to some other foods. So I am sure there are tons of benefits that we have not even discovered yet.
